Mindful Living - Sustainable Swaps

I’ve got a little challenge for you all this week! For one week, I want you to live your life exactly as you normally would. BUT, I want you to take note of all of the single use items that you use… disposable coffee cups, coffee k-cups, grocery bags, unnecessary food wrappings, plastic cutlery, etc. If you can, save all of these items in a box or bag and at the end of the week you will be amazed at how much waste you created, and how much of that waste could have been prevented with just a few simple swaps.

The easiest way to find reusable products that work best for you is to complete the waste challenge and assess what items you use the most. But if you’re not sure where to start here are some good ones…

Sustainable Swaps

your everyday basics

Disposable Coffee Cup → Reusable Coffee Cup

Bottled Water → Insulated Water Bottle

Aluminum Foil/Plastic Wrap → Beeswax Food Wraps

Plastic Cutlery → Bamboo Cutlery

Single Use Straw → Metal Straw

Plastic Grocery Bags → Cloth Shopping Bags

Plastic Produce Bags → Cloth Produce Bags

Take Away Food Containers → Metal Containers
Ziplock Bags → Reusable Snack and Sandwich Bags

It can be difficult to understand the impacts of our consumption when its not right in front of our face. We don’t typically see the trash pilling up in our landfills or being stored in processing facilities. We put out our recycling bins every week feeling good about our choices without knowing that the majority of items that we put in that bin will not actually be recycled. We fall into the mindset of I’m just one person…

“I’m just one person...” “it’s just one straw…” “it’s only one…” said 7 billion people

Let’s all be the one person to make a change, even a small one will have a huge impact. And hopefully our choices can inspire others to consume more mindfully.
