the biz blog
It can’t believe its been 6 months since I started Samudra Yoga! It feels like that was yesterday! I had (and still have) no clue what I’m doing, but I’m learning and I’m having a freakin’ blast while I’m doing it! My goal with this blog is to share my journey with as many people as possible in hopes of inspiring others to start a journey of their own too!
So, to add yet another aspect to this rad little yoga, health, travel, beauty, lifestyle, and now, girl boss blog, I thought I would share a few things that have made my life easier and helped my business grow.
As I was writing this post it started to get a bit lengthy, and I know I don’t like reading super long articles… short and sweet is how I roll! So I decided to break this post up into a multi-part series and share with you each week something that I has helped me immensely! Let's dive in!
Week 1: Invest in the Right Equipment
The first thing that I did when I started my company was set up a webpage - if you want to run with the big dogs you need to join the pack, right? So I did my research and eventually decided on Squarespace. (Website Builder Expert has a nice little comparison chart to help you narrow down your selection, you can check it out here)
With my domain secure I was ready to dive in, however, I was designing my webpage with an ancient laptop and my iPhone 6 camera. They got the job done, but it was amateur work at best. What should have taken me 20 minutes to complete, was taking me over 2 hours.
Ever heard the phrase ‘time is money’? Well its also happiness, I decided enough was enough and I swapped my well used laptop for something I never thought I would ever own…a MacBook, and I’m proud to say I’m never going back. I also said I would never get an iPhone and I’ve had one for 5 years now. My MacBook and my iPhone are 2 peas in a little tech pod.
Macs always scared me because I wasn’t familiar with the operating system, and with everything in life we tend to stick within our comfort zone. But you can’t achieve greatness by staying in your comfort zone so I took bite of the enchanted apple and I fell in love.
I am not a sponsor for Apple (but hey if any Apple reps are reading this and want to send me some tech gifts I wouldn’t be mad about it). I did my research and decided that this was the right tool for me. If you’re a hard no on switching from a PC, the Asus ZenBook and the Microsoft Surface are also top rated for bloggers and businesses on the go!
We are visual creatures, especially when it comes to marketing and the internet. I bet most of you aren’t even reading this right now, you read the intro and skipped to each bullet point; that’s what I would probably do, at least until I had time to sit down and digest it all. Cameras are like a foreign language to me, so I kept it simple and went with a nice point and shoot. I plan to upgrade to a DSLR one day, but one step at a time. There are a million cameras on the market these days. Figure out what your needs are and start there. For me, wifi was important. I like being able to download the photos from my cameras straight to my laptop or iPhone.
After I procured the camera, I subscribed to Lightroom for simple photo editing and downloaded a couple of app that also help with editing and keeping me on track.
