Someone told me once that I smelled like a coconut, and I totally count it as one of the nicest things anyone has ever said about me. So here is a little peak at the products currently crowding my bathroom sink that keep me smelling like a coconut!Read More

I always thought that I was a morning person, and maybe I was at one point, but if there is one thing that I have always struggled with it is maintaining a consistent morning routine. But, your morning routine doesn’t have to be 2 hours long, because, let’s be honest here, most of us don’t have that kind of time in the morning, especially if we aren’t the type to rise before the sun.
So here are 5 things to add to your mornings, that you can even do right from your bed, that will still let you sleep in, but will have a huge impact on your day!
I’ve shared my story before… what initially sparked my interest in saving the reefs, how I overcame my fears to get back in the water, the highlights of how I got where I am today, and a little peek at what I do now.
But if you read Confessions of a Marine Biologist, I never really told you WHY.
FIND OUT MY WHY
I don't know about you, but knowing that we are completely destroying this planet can get pretty overwhelming sometimes. But what are we to do… we are just 1 person in a sea of single use plastic waste. Well my salty friends, you keep making a difference, no matter how small it may seem.
New Year, New You… amiright? The title to rival all titles this month. Coming into a new year, how many of us have spent time with our thoughts, creating a list of intentions and resolutions, only to fall short after the first month… or even week? Hey life comes at us fast sometimes and being creatures of habit once our routine is fouled we can begin to fall back into our old pre-new year habits.
So what do we do?
It can be difficult to understand the impacts of our consumption when its not right in front of our face. We don’t typically see the trash pilling up in our landfills or being stored in processing facilities. We put out our recycling bins every week feeling good about our choices without knowing that the majority of items that we put in that bin will not actually be recycled. We fall into the mindset of I’m just one person…
If you had asked me a few years ago what yoga was I would have said stretching. But, if you ask me today my answer, just like my practice, has evolved and I would tell you that it is a lifestyle.
Yoga is so much more than the poses. Its about living with mindfully with conscious intent.
I stumbled across this poem by Nayyirah Waheed the other day and it brought me to tears. I think I’ve reread it about 10 times. So I slapped it on a photo and thought I would share it here! I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.Read More
My yoga teacher always told us the poses that we hate doing are the ones that we need to practice the most. For me those are heart openers and balancing poses. I’m just not good at them. I cringed every time they are cued in class and I was always weary of instructing them in my classes because I thought if I couldn’t do them well I shouldn’t teach them.
But you know what, my yoga teacher was right. If we always ignore the things that we aren’t good at or that we are afraid of and only focus on the things that we like and are good at we will never move forward.Read More
Yesterday was International Surfing Day and of course in true Lake Atlantic fashion, it was flatter than a pancake. But I didn't let the lack of waves stop me from floating in the ocean, which to be honest is mostly what I do anyways when I go surfing because I still can't catch a wave to save my life.
On social media my job might look like a vacation, but most of the time I probably am on vacation. Here is a little behind the scenes of my life as a marine biologist… how I got here and the not so glamorous side of it too.Read More
Earth Day is only a week away (April 22) and this year is all about reducing plastic pollution!
Wake up call.. according to the Washington Post the Great Pacific Garbage Patch, which is made up of 79,000 tons of plastic debris, is now three times the size of France and by 2050, there will be more plastics in the ocean than fish.
Social media is amazing tool for showcasing your talents, connecting with like-minded people, making an impact, and collaborating with amazing brands... until it's not. I fell for the perfectly curated feed and marketing message that spoke my language and instead of helping the planet, I bruised it a little bit.
